200km down the coast from Cape Town, near Africa's most southerly point, is a land dominated by ancient vegetation, flower fields and coastal plains. Many come to see the whales from the shore, but if you drive inland up a 4km gravel track you can reach Farm 215. Don't be put off by its simple entrance sign – this will not be a wasted journey.
Less farm, more private nature reserve, it's a renovated homestead in the heart of a vast expanse of unspoilt fynbos heathland. Only occasional breezes and birdsong interrupt the deep stillness here. There's a choice of accommodation to suit almost everyone: two modern farmhouses sleeping 4-8, and a trio of freestanding cabins. Couples will adore the latter, oozing with stylish simplicity while the reserve takes centre stage. Lie in bed and you'll believe you're sleeping outside: wall-to-wall windows give astonishing views across the plains to the distant ocean. It's rural but not rustic: clean lines mean you won't be roughing it. Owner Maarten has masterfully harmonised nature and lodge together, and we can't wait to return.

Location
Farm 215 is located along the 100km stretch of coast from Stanford to Cape Agulhas, the southern-most point of the African continent, near the entrance to the Agulhas National Park. The reserve itself is located in the middle of a mosaic of vineyards, farmland, flower orchards and unspoilt nature.

From the Airport
It is just over 2 hours' drive from Cape Town International, heading east via Hermanus. Accessed from the 'Fynbos Road' along the southern point of Africa, the gate to Farm 215 is about 20km from the fishing village of Gansbaai, on the road to Baardskeerdersbos and Elim.
By Car

Farm 215 is a really special, beautiful and secluded place to stay, we just wish we had arranged our trip so that more time was spent there as both the Farm and the area are so much more interesting than we realised! We stayed in two Fynbos suites, as we were a family of four, so our teenagers had one and we had the other, but there is space and plates / cutlery to be able to all eat together in one. The suites are so well equipped with gorgeous balconies and fantastic sunset views. The surrounding vegetation is beautiful. It really is a unique and peaceful place. We cancelled our restaurant reservations so we could spend more time in the suites. The nearby Walker Bay reserve is stunning, as is Hermanus, but sadly we didn't have time to explore the (apparently great) nearby vineyards or do a local hike, so we'll just have to come back! I would say make sure you have a sturdy, prerferably 4 wheel drive, car as the road to the Farm is quite stony and bumpy.
