Travel Guide to Alonissos

Best things to do and see in Alonissos

Alonissos: Why go

Of the 4 Sporades islands, Alonissos is by far the most remote and the most tranquil. Blanketed in pine and olive trees, ringed by numerous gorgeous beaches, and home to an enormous marine park, the island is a true natural beauty. Take a boat out and you might spot dolphins, Mediterranean monk seals and rare seabirds, plus inviting crystal-clear waters for swimming and snorkelling.

The port town, Patitiri, is the island’s pretty capital, set around a petite turquoise harbour. This is the liveliest spot on Alonissos – though it’s still a blissfully far cry from the clubby nightlife of nearby Skiathos. The Old Town (Hora) is postcard-perfect: cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, teeny churches – think idyllic Greek island village from the movies. For some beach time, don’t miss the white sands of Megalos Mourtias and Chrisi Milia.
