Set in a gated community beneath dramatic sea cliffs, this 2-bedroom Manrique-inspired villa has panoramic views of the Famara Beach surf and the islet of La Graciosa. The owner is a passionate and positive ex-music-festival organiser who has imbued the property with his creative spirit and relaxed vibe. There's an alfresco bath, coloured mood lighting both indoors and out, even 'mood' playlists streamed through high-quality speakers. Everything, from the retro chairs to the bespoke cutlery, is easy on the eye. Those who like to chill out, soak up solace and simply watch the pounding surf will be in heaven.
But active types and families with older kids will love it just as much. Famara Beach is brilliant for surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing, or you can hire bikes to explore Lanzarote's volcanic landscapes. When the sun goes down, walk to excellent seafood restaurants at the low-key seaside village of La Caleta de Famara or whip up dinner in the kitchen and eat in your private rock garden surrounded by cacti. This is a sophisticated but funky bolthole, and a true one-off.

Highs
- A peaceful and beautifully designed hideaway, far from Lanzarote's madding crowds (and even further from its cheap and tacky image)
- Dreamy ocean views from the terrace, and a short stroll from quiet Famara Beach (surf heaven)
- La Caleta's shops and restaurants are just 2km away
- The owner (who lives next door) is wonderful and will provide superb bespoke service, or space and silence if you need it
- Ideal for romantic getaways: the privacy of your own place but all the styling of a boutique hotel
Lows
- You'll need a car to get here and for stocking up with supplies at the local supermarket
- As usual on Lanzarote, there's no pool, but there's a fabulous marbled outdoor bath complete with mood lighting!
- This part of the coast has strong currents and can be windy; other nearby beaches are better for paddling or swimming
- The second double bedroom is tiny but fine for kids
- There's a 7-night minimum stay (Sat/Sun arrivals preferred)
Best time to go
Lanzarote has year-round sunshine, though there's less cloud here in the northeast in summer. Having said that, July and August can be the windiest months for this part of the island. If you don't want sand in your sandwiches, mid- to late-Autumn is a good time to visit.
Our top tips
This is a place to hide away and read good books, walk on the beach and eat fantastic seafood at nearby restaurants. It's not for those who like plenty going on or late-night bars, but we highly recommend you rent a car and explore the rest of the island.
