Like the rest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura experiences warm, sunny weather and moderate winds year-round. Temperatures tend to stick within the 20s regardless of the season; they're at their highest in the summer months but this is when the wind is strongest, so it never gets blisteringly hot.
There are festivals throughout the year to suit all interests. The main religious event is Romería de la Peña, celebrating the island’s patron saint, ‘Our Lady of the Rock’, where a pilgrimage inland occurs on the third weekend of September. There are colourful carnivals in February and March where towns come alive with music, parades and dancing, and the World Windsurfing Championships are held on the south coast in July.

FUERTEVENTURA: BY AIR

Within Europe: try Aer Lingus, Condor, Norwegian, Volotea, Ryanair, Iberia and Vueling
From other Canary Islands: Binter Canarias operates flights between the Canary Islands. There are several flights daily between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

You'll want to hire a car to fully explore the island and reach the most remote beaches. The island is only 100km long and around 30km wide; from tip to tip it's less than 1hr45mins by car. The wide and well-maintained roads make driving easy, and traffic is rare. See our car rental recommendations
There is a bus service connecting most towns and villages to the airport, or you can use taxis, though these can be expensive for longer journeys (more than the daily cost of hiring a car).
