Everyone knows Ulster is home to the counties of Northern Ireland - Tyrone, Down, Fermanagh, Armagh, Derry and Antrim. Few know that it embraces Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal in the Republic, too. Donegal may be rugged and Monaghan flat, but both are beautifully unspoilt, untouristy and made for hikers and riders; cyclists and fisherfolk too. With its prehistoric remains, Monaghan is a country of archeological interest, while Donegal is famous for its knitwear and tweeds.
