There is a lot to love about these 12 beautifully styled, architect-designed cottages that perch atop a peaceful hill in the heart of Tuscany. Borgo 69 is the brainchild of Philip and Paolo, the pioneering duo who brought nearby Fontelunga back to life in the noughties. Here, choose from 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom villas, each individually and beautifully designed using cool, earthy tones and soothing, natural materials. Whichever option you choose, expect a sleek, fully stocked kitchen and a luxury bathroom for every bedroom. Add to that a private herb-scented outdoor space from which to sip something chilled as you watch those splendid views of the rolling Tuscan hills.
A huge perk is the included breakfast at the onsite restaurant. It’s all about ‘farm to table’ dining here, thanks to the thriving market garden and top notch local suppliers. Expect (reportedly delicious) cicchetti style dishes (small plates), homemade stews and fresh pasta; or get involved with one of their regular supper clubs. When not devouring local fare, hire a bike, practice your backhand on the tennis court or simply while away the day by the heated, saltwater infinity pool. What's more, you’re perfectly positioned between Arezzo and Siena, so there’s plenty of exploring potential nearby. Utter bliss.

Lows
- You’ll need a car to get around

Best time to go
Summer (July-August) can get very hot - great for poolside lazing. However, expect crowds when venturing out to see the sights. Visit during May and September for pleasantly warm temperatures and fewer people. Borgo 69 is closed for a few months in winter.
Our top tips
This is an excellent spot for escaping with friends or family without the need to all pile into one abode. Gather your finest companions and book multiple villas. Last one to the pool buys the first bottle of Chianti!
